i loved the books, and i thought the movie was beautiful.

 

watch out for the ending song though for the credits. it made my ears bleed.

 

anyway, i thought the ending sucked, since they wanted to keep it less controversial or whatnot, or not a cliffhanger in case they don't get funding, but they basically cut out the last pivotal part in the first book.

 

i'm really curious to see what people's reactions are to the claims about the movie being anti religious or whatnot. the director take the pains to make it as subtle as possible. i.e. "oh my gosh" instead of "oh my god"

 

when i grow up, i wanna be a kid again! xD

Movie sucked.

Book was good.

 

The only things I liked about the movie were:

 

1.) Iorek and the armored bears looked real

2.) I couldn't have thought of anyone better as Lyra

3.) The gyptians were perfect.

Well, I haven't read the books but I did see the movie. It was only OK, nothing great.

 

From what I hear, the big religious controversey is more about the rest of the series rather than this one in particular. There wasn't really a whole lot in this movie, especially compared to what it could be. Though if I had the time I'd be tempted to read the books, cuz they're usually better than watching a movie where they cut stuff out, dumb it down, or what really irks me, completely change stuff.

I for one am really happy you posted this topic.

I've never read the books, but I loved the movie. I thought it was well done and a very original story. I was very much hoping that they were gonna make a sequal.

I guess maybe my opinion could change a little bit if I were to read the book, but still, I thought it was a great movie. I actually just watched it for the first time last week.

 

Another thing. I want a demon. That would f'n rock!
