Wuffers 0
Real name: Anna Type(s) of dancing: a little bit of everything modern and a few older styles including belly dancing (and yes I do incorporate it into my performances) How long you have been dancing: nearly all my life Where you are from: Originally from Kansas, moved to Texas middle of my sophomore year of high school How you learned: Classes, mimicing stuff on TV, Dance teams How you recommend beginners learn: If you can get into a dance class that's a great starter, but if not, find a tape of your favorite video or what have you and watch how they do it (slow it down if you need to). There are plenty of "how to dance" videos out there... Pick one up.

Atsu 0
Real name: Blake Benson Type(s) of dancing: (besides glowstringing and freehand) Hip-Hop, Jazz, Popping, Salsa, Ballroom, Choreographed, Tecktonik, Shuffle, Jumpstyle, Krumping, and I want to learn how to bboy. How long you have been dancing: In real terms. Only 2 years(stringing and freehanding I've only been doing for almost a month now though). I was to shy to try do things publicly until I saw myself in a mirror and saw that it wasn't as bad as I thought. I've been getting better ever since then practicing many different types of dance. Where you are from: Lansing, Michigan How you learned: I first moved to the music just because I felt like it. But then I started to learn certain ways of moving that looked much better through music videos and watching others. I then taught myself by practicing it over and over again. Then I just started to make my own stled moves through the basis of other moves. How you recommend beginners learn: First, you need music taht makes you move. Just something that you like the beat to. Something that makes you tap your fingers or toes whether you want to or not. Who cares what it is. Then you just let the music move your body. Feel the music, don't try anything until you freestyle on your own terms first. Do this twice. Once without looking at anything, and once in a mirror. Then you can move on to tutorials on certain styles of dancing if you feel the need to. But if you can learn by just watching someone on a music video or a freestyle video, then that's good as well. Then it's all practice from there. EDIT: Forgot my rep =P - Reppin the So Cal
XTC 0
Real name: Martin Type(s) of dancing: Liquid and glowsticking How long you have been dancing: 4 years on and off. Where you are from: Los Angeles, CA How you learned: I learned by myself and a friend on how to liquid. I learned glowsticking from GSC videos way back when. How you recommend beginners learn: Monkey see monkey do. But having guide you will expedite the process.
Clutch 2
Real name: Kyle 'Clutch' Jimenez Type(s) of dancing: B-boying, popping, locking, tutting, stepping, krumping, c-walking and swing How long you have been dancing: B-boying (4 years), popping (1 year), locking (1 year), tutting (3 months), stepping (6 months), Krumping (1 month), swing (3 months), c-walking (6 months) Where you are from: San Francisco How you learned: Well I got into b-boying my senior year of high school because I started a b-boy club with my friend who taught me. Learned some basic moves from bboyworld.com and started to put my own flavor into them. Then I just went out to sessions, practiced at home in my kitchen, and have been just messing around here and there since. Popping, locking and tutting I all learned during a elements of hip-hop class I took in college and am still practicing today. The site Westcoastpopping.com has helped a lot for me! I got into stepping because I am a part of the social justice fraternity Chi Upsilon Zeta and some of the brothers decided it would be fun to come up with a step after watching stomp the yard. lol! xD Krumping is something I just picked up after AnimeExpo 2008 after doing a session with some kids after the dance (not the random rave GS.C started for the 'Art of Glowsticking' exhibition) and it's something I mess around with here and there. Swing is something I picked up from the 'medley segment' of our modern suite for our Filipino Culture Night Performance we did last year. I got into c-walking after watching a whole lot of youtube videos and messing around since I thought it looked cool. xD How you recommend beginners learn: Honestly I have a tendency to just randomly break out into dance when I hear a song that I like (most of the time Ne-Yo) and I just move my body to the rhythm. So I guess the besta dvice I could give anyone is just feel the beat and let your body take over and move. Who cares what anyone else thinks, just feel it. If anything, you can pick up tips and advice from your friends or others around for things that work and things that don't. Just always feel the rhythm and MOVE!

angelantigone 0
Real name: Noël West Type(s) of dancing: ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, modern, hiphop, exotic/pole/burlesque, freehand, glowstring, poi How long you have been dancing: ballet, jazz and lyrical (7 years) modern (4 years) hiphop (4 years previously) tap (3 years previously) exotic/pole/burlesque (3 years) freehand (3 years combined) glowstring, poi, liquid (about 1 month) Where you are from: originially virginia beach, va now jacksonville, fl How you learned: class, watching How you recommend beginners learn: watch people, mirror other people, and ask questions lots and lots of questions. do it slowly and correctly the first time. it's easier to learn correctly and super slow than to learn incorrectly and have to re-learn something. also, count!!! almost all music played in clubs is in 4/4 time, meaning 8 counts per arc of music. mostly just try to feel the rhythm of what you're doing and go with the flow. i also suggest working in front of a mirror... that way you have a better idea of what you look like. and take a classical dance class or two. be aware of your own body and how it feels when it moves. StompQueen 0
Real name: Marthy Type(s) of dancing: ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, modern, hip-hop, ballroom, STOMPING How long you have been dancing: (in years) ballet: 10 tap: 5 jazz: 5 pointe: 6 modern: 4 hip-hop: 3 ballroom: 3 (specifically for cotillions of my friends and my own) stomping: 8 Where you are from: New Jersey How you learned: formal dance classes for ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, modern, ballroom; friends and dance groups for hip-hop; stomping I learned by watching a few friends that I wanted to look like, then practiced a lot in front of a mirror and turned it into my own style. How you recommend beginners learn: learn the basic fundamentals however you can: watch tutorials/vids, ask people, take a class (there are studios that offer classes and you pay for the class you take); practice A LOT especially if you have full body mirrors; then when you learn the basics moves tweek it and create your own style to it. zerizum 0
Real name: Adrian Type(s) of dancing: Stringing, Freehand, Melbourne Shuffle, Popping, Locking, Botting, Tutting, Waving. How long you have been dancing: On and off for about 3 years Where you are from: Reppin' ATL How you learned: I learned stringing and shuffling from youtube. Learned everything else from friends and other dancers. How you recommend beginners learn: Best thing i can recommend is to have the monkey see monkey do attitude. I'm not saying to completely copy someones style but watch videos and if you see something you want to learn than try to do as it is done in the video, as most dance moves are pretty self explanatory. The best way to learn, however, is to get a friend or a crew (not glowsticking) who knows how to do the dance style you want to do and learn from them.
lockshot 0
Real name: Andres Type(s) of dancing: Melbourne Shuffle, C-walk, tecktonik, jumpstyle, liquid. How long you have been dancing: for about a year or so. Where you are from: San Jose, Costa Rica. How you learned: I learned shuffling from melbshuffle.com, you learn both culture and the dance, so it's pretty cool; freehand out of the vids from this place and youtube, along with some pointers from the GSC members and a little experimentation, and the rest from my friends and a few vids. How you recommend beginners learn: first of all, learn the culture of the dance, then start off learning the basics and so on; take it at your own pace and don't let anyone's opinion affect you. How you recommend beginners learn: watch lots, not just tutorials, watch whatever interests you and draw from it, dont stick to just one style, see what you like and mix it in. but yeah watch lots and practise lots, you can know soemthing inside out, but if you cant do it where's the point? I can't see a lot of difference between "French" stomp and DnB step other than foot placement, am I missing something???

Hard Jump, learned completely on my own. DnB Step, learned on my own as well. bitsmart 0
Real name: Drew Type(s) of dancing: popping, locking, waving, tutting, boogaloo, saccin, botting, floating/gliding, liquid, digitz How long you have been dancing: since 2003 Where you are from: Massachusetts, birthplace of the revolution. Currently spreading the love in Central FL. How you learned: The reflective.net community, evolved from the shutupanddance forum, home of the now-defunct Liquid Pop Collective. They were for urban dance styles what GS.C is for glowsticking. I studied the foundations of many styles by studying videos and recording myself so I could get feedback and correct my mistakes. How you recommend beginners learn: After years of watching how GS.C has grown, thanks in large part to its tutorial videos, I advocate them as an invaluable learning resource. As for watching videos of others to learn, there lies the risk of your own style being influenced by others. Jeff (BigShow) and Skywalker are two dancers who developed unique styles without the use of video clips. There is no one right way to learn, and with the right attitude and focus, anything can be a resource to help you grasp these fundamental concepts and apply them to your dancing in your own way. Here are some resources which may be of use to you: Old Reflective.net forum - don't know if you can still register a new acct., but my old one still works and I can get at the Newbie FAQ forum with lots of good threads to learn from. If new signups are blocked, I can repost some threads here. Floasis.net Forum - a similar community that seems to be active currently.

Where you are from: Wisconsin How you learned: I have taken classes, gone to seminars, watched some videos, trial and error... How you recommend beginners learn: It depends on the style.
