Candace Parker was recently featured on 2K22 MT the cover for NBA2K22. Her former Los Angeles Sparks teammate and mentor, Lisa Leslie, paved the way when she was featured in Backyard Basketball in 2001. These are the results of Leslie's inclusion and how Parker's focus will lead to greater exposure.

Candace Parker has been chosen to be on the cover of NBA2K22 and is the first women's player to earn that distinction. Actually, it was her Los Angeles Sparks teammate and mentor Lisa Leslie who paved the way for women's participation in basketball games. Leslie was a Humungous Entertainment's Backyard Basketball player (2001) before the release of PlayStation 5 and 3.

While it was the Minnesota Timberwolves' Kevin Garnett who was featured on the cover of first Backyard Basketball, Leslie was included in the game and you could play as her and Garnett.

Houston Comets stars Cynthia Cooper and Sheryl Swoopes both were absent from the 2001 WNBA season. Cooper, a two-time MVP, and four-time champion retired following the season of 2000. Cooper returned in 2003. Swoopes, who was also a part of those four championships and was also the league's MVP for the year, was not able to  Buy MT 2K22 play in 2001 because of a torn ACL. After helping the Sparks to win their first title in September 2001, Leslie won not only the 2001 MVP award but she also was named the Finals MVP. Backyard Basketball was released one month later and featured Leslie as the sole female real-life player (Garnett was only a men's player).
