Arius 2
So it has been absolutly forever since i've made any kandi. Last summer, maybe like July, was probably the last time I made kandi, and i stopped wearing it soon after. I mean, don't get me wrong, I doubt there's been a day i haven't thought about it. But i just kinda fell out of doing it? I still love looking through my pieces and remembering who traded them and when, or what I made them for, and everything. since starting college this year, i never brought my kandi stuff, cause i knew i'd never have time or space for it (and i was probably right, not to mention i started to stop by that time anyhow). i only brought maybe 6 singles with me at the begining of the year, plus a belt my friend made and gave to me (but not after getting DJ S3RL sweat on it!!! FAV PIECE EVER!!!). I still love kandi, but i don't really have the drive to make or wear it anymore, and haven't in forever. I know everyone goes through lulls, but i haven't had the super urge or inspiration to make one in forever. It's crossed my mind a couple times in the past months (among my maniac emotions of happy and depression and drive and lulls, all at once). and only last week i started wearing the few pieces i have here, every couple days. Is it bad that I still love kandi and plur and all the friends and memories that go with it, but can't even make time, or make myself, to make a single piece when i'm home for the weekend? I feel like i'm betraying the art, and because i've just recently started wearing a few pieces again (slightly forcefully), i feel like a huge fake. thoughts?
Danika 2
I haven't made kandi since like last June so I know how you feel. I sort of just stopped wearing it all together. I still love kandi, still love to make it, but I just don't have the drive to. Is it wrong that I scoff at people I see around my city wearing kandi because I find that they really don't know what its about and probably just go to parties just to get fucked up and are only wearing kandi to show off that they're "ravers"? These people probably thought the same of me when I wore my kandi. I had a different mindset a couple years ago. I think it's just the jaded me speaking. Ah well. It's different if I know a person though.... its just that California has been letting me down for the past two years. People who wear kandi "to be cool" and rave "to be cool" are getting on my nerves. I still love kandi though. Just want to throw that out again. I just don't have the drive to make it again... but I have bursts of creativity and I know I'll make it again one day and I always wear my panda kandi on special occasions. Trance-Rckr 3
I just bought some new beads after a 2 month dryspell of not making any. Main reason was due to lack of extra cash to buy supplies. That and Wal-Mart has changed their beads, which i absolutly hate. Arius, One thing that always inspires me is pics of other peoples kandi. These pictures always give me the urge to make some:
Jin Smylez 3
Just because you haven't made/worn kandi in a while doesnt mean anything. You dont need to wear a gold chain to rhyme, you dont need a crazy car to be able to drive well, you dont need to have a black suit to be a ninja, you dont need to wear/make kandi to still be the same person with the same appreciation. Often times, I see kids decked out in kandi, necklaces and bracelets and whatever else you can find, high as shit at a party, and have NO IDEA what kandi is. Then you have other people who wear barely any, and dont really make kandi THAT often, or havent made kandi for a while. but they appreciate kandi for what it is. They wear it and make it for the right reasons. No, you're not a fake.
Arius 2
thanks guys, that helps out a lot. I think i'm gonna bring some of my beads back to college. Might get some ridicule but i dunno how likely i'll be to do it here now anymore than earlier. but having it here might in general make me want to start making some again. and im glad to hear im not alone, or that my mindset isn't neccessarily bad. it helps to know
Azzie 1
I never wore Kandi everyday but I tried to put them in rotation...and cared for them made sure they were safe etc; and that counts. Sometimes life happens. You always stray away from hobbies and crafts and such; sometimes you come back to them and sometimes you don't; at least you have good memories. You not making Kandi anymore doesn't make you fake. Live your life, revel in your memories.
Neko86 1
i have been a kandii kid for over ten years [im 25 turning 26] and now even though i dont get to rave as much i still wear a peice or two a day, i just love the idea behind it, its true meaning, the fact i even work in an office now i may have toned it down a bit but ill still incorporate it [my necklace is a qdance pendant and a few pony beads on a chain] and a cuff.. many people dont get it but as long as YOU understand why you wear it and what you feel from wearing it, you arent fake. I wear kandii so much and refuse to take it off [hey, one day colours will be victorious over the grey] that when i was a bridesmaid at a mates wedding they had jewelry made up for me with rainbow stones so i could still have my colours and take off my 'normal' stuff majority of my kandii is sentimental, made my someone or swapped or someone picked the colours for me, ialso agree about the people not really knowing the culture behind it, and the people at raves OMG ITZ MY FIRST RAVE GIVE ME SOME KANDII and just demanding it, thats not right and ill often refuse, depending on the way they approach me. those photos are crazy! hehe. ive never made kandii with soft toys but always wanted too..
