Speed

Recommended Posts

Because it's fun to talk about:

What do you think is the range of speeds at which you will almost always be at the same stoplights as the people behind (and in front?) of you? I've found that I generally have to travel at least 20 MPH over the limit to have any hope of advancing ahead of people in terms of stoplights.

Oh stoplights, you equalizers of the outrageously slow (10 under) and the outrageously fast (20 over). How I hate thee.

Pretty much asking what speed you usually have to do in order to actually get anywhere faster than the people you're passing.

Simple example that works 50% of the time for me:

If I leave the stoplight on the top end of this street and I do 30-40 over, I might make it through the stoplight at the bottom of the street as it turns yellow. That saves me 25% of the time about 3 minutes off of a 5 minute drive. If I go less than 30 over, I almost always hit the stoplight at the bottom after it's turned red and then I just look like a jerk who speeds past people without actually getting anywhere.
