A short guide to purchasing from ExtremeGlow

96 posts in this topic

Some colors are just naturally brighter. Green and orange are the brightest Ultra intensity sticks with the green ones staying bright the longest. For novelty sticks, green and blue are the brightest and will seem to stay bright the longest.

It's not uncommon to crack 2 sticks of the same color and see a slight variation in color or intensity - that often has to do with the shelf life of the chemicals and whether or not they're exposed to any UV light (hydrogen peroxide is very sensitive to UV).

You can also use the dead sticks for practice since its hard to find or make LEDs that match the weight and feel of a glowstick.

Yeah, Cyber's right. Green and blue 'novelty' grade glowsticks last the longest, and I think are good for practicing....but like he said, they are sensitive to UV (blacklight).

What you could do with dead sticks, is practice w/ them under a flourescent UV (blacklight) tube, and they will glow a little bit, b/c of the dye used to make the different colors. Just my 2 cents.

Quick question.

Do I still get the 5% discount if I order snaplights?

And, do snaplights come with candlestick (like cyalume) tips or the stronger hook tips?

ALSO, how do the snaplight 30mins compare to cyalume 30mins?

Snaplights dont have candle tips, they have the hex shape with the industrial hook.

The snaplight formulas are just like the cyalume except that they come in different casings.

On a side note, the only colors that vary in 30 min are the yellow. The yellow snaplight is still green while the cyalume yellow is now yellow unless you get lucky and get an old batch.

I hope this will help out the people who are unsure about what glowsticks to buy from ExtremeGlow. This is being updated from time to time, although the products can change often.

My personal recommendations ---

http://www.extremeglow.com/Merchant4/merch...Category_Code=6 (6" glowsticks page)

When checking out, use the coupon code GLOW in order to receive 5% off. This helps out a little bit with the shipping costs. NOTE: This only works when purchasing Cyalume brand glowsticks.

Hey NME I have a couple questions for you. I just bought 60 sticks from ExtremeGlow. 20 X6U Oranges branded "DreamGlow", 20 6U Greens from "OmniGlow", 10 6U Blues from "Omniglow", and 10 Cyalume Ultras (omg so expensive).

So my question for you is, in regards to you saying the products change, is that the unwrapped ones I bought are decent are they not? I see you don't recommend the 6U variety which is labeled to be from GlowLight but the ones I received were OmniGlow. So is there a difference? Is OmniGlow any better than GlowLight? My same question goes for DreamGlow where the brand posted online is Novelty.

Thanks in advance.

The quality should be pretty decent for the X6U...although I've never tried it myself personally. If you're just starting out glowsticking, the X6U is a good deal. 100 glowsticks for $50 averages out to $0.50 per glowstick.

I'm not too sure if there's a difference between the brands. The quality can definitely change for the unwrapped glowsticks, but the quality for the wrapped glowsticks usually remains consistent (sometimes it changes though).

I ran across that site in early 2002 and I took a couple of the high intensity orange to a rave... a circle of probably 30 or more people just stopped dancing as soon as they were lit. Very nice recommendation.

Ive ordered from extreme glow before and actually just did today. I have to agree the Cyalume are the best route but are a bit more. My two cents...

if your getting color brights...im assuming thats what u ment by brights

i'd say green, blue, and yellow

red gets extremely dim quickly and doesn't show up on a camera at all if u try to record, i haven't tried the hot pink or the purple so unfortunetly i have no information to help u with those too

on brightness level Green by far, then blue, then yellow ( yellow gets 3rd because they didn't illuminate half as much as i thought they would)

so all in all i say green and blue imo

but get what u want and have fun experimenting ^_^

They dont give really give a good glow at all. Get the colorbright which are (6w). But they are strong enough for handles.

wow this is a great guild, im new to glowsticking so Im still trying to get info on sticks and stuff...atm iv just been getting sticks here and there from doller stores but Im starting to work soon and il be investing in better sticks (i keep breaking the ones i get lol)

so just a few questions...

1) Are the color brights the best for stringing? i know the guild says so but i jsut wanna make sure that the clip is good bc the ones iv broken, the clip just snaped or the actual stick broke

2) should I waste my money on decent sticks if I can afford them? bc like i can use them for practice if they last a long time...or should i jsut get a 100 pack for $50?

3) What do you guys meen by a "candle tip" for the Cyalume sticks? like what exactly is it?

Thanks guys :),

This is somewhat of a late post but I'd just like to say, thank you for posting this guide. I'm completely new to glowsticking and glowstringing but this is helped me figure out which to buy now and later on when I get better. There is a store near my house that sells glowsticks but for 50 dollars I only get about 40 cheap-o sticks.

I'll definitley be getting the 100 pack soon!

Thanks again.

What is the difference between the time frames?

e.g. 30 minutes, 5 minutes etc.

Is it like bright for that time and THEN start to dim? Or totaly length of brightness whatsoever in exchange for super awesome uber bright for that short amount of time?

Most have a balanced glow over the entire span of their proclaimed time. But Naturally, the five minutes will be brighter than the thirty, but the thirty lasts longer, so that's the trade off.

Cool thanks for that. Just dont want to rush into buying these sticks, im about 6 months in glowstringing and im still using the $1 snap sticks from cheap as chups loool :)

Also, isnt the theory behind the plur-bat a contradiction of plur itself?
