Throws are one of the basic moves that lead to combos and provide visual flair and creativity in glowsticking.

Throws are the simple act of releasing a glowstick in mid air. Many times, the glowstick is spun (see definitions for "helicopter throw") to provide a certain flair. A glowstick can be thrown from behind, from between your legs, from different points, with different arm movements. A glowstick can be thrown consecutively, or directly into a stall or kick in what is known as a combos. A glowstick can even be bounced off the ground.

Many glowstickers have different types of throws and different kinds of styles. There are too many to list.

Spinning the glowstick (Helicopter throw)

Horizontally spinning the glowstick (called the helicopter throw), has many advantages. First, you can naturally catch it with a downward motion, leading to more throws and continuation of traces. Secondly, it makes it easier to stall (see stalls), a glowstick without having the glowstick bounce off the intended target (because it provides a greater surface area). Thirdly, it makes kicks more accurate, as the helicopter motion acts as a stabilizer. One of the most important aspect of the helicopter throw is that it provides a distinct visual flair quite different from simply launching the sticks into mid air.

People have their own methods to doing the helicopter throw, from using the entire hand to twist it, from flicking, to many other ways that have differing type of advantages.

Other types of throws exist, from simply letting go, to launching the glowstick from a kick or a tap.
